School Community Check-In & Update

Good Evening Samuel Hearne MS Community,

On behalf of the Staff of Samuel Hearne Middle School, we sincerely hope that our Students and Families are continuing to be safe and are well.

During this week, you have received a variety of communications from our Teachers who have sent emails and shared messages on Google Classroom and Class Dojo, reaching out to Students and Parents/Guardians to check-in and reconnect. Please be sure to review this communication, and please take some time to complete the survey (Google Form) shared in the Google Classroom or posted on the Class Dojo of your child’s Teacher. The information collected with this survey will support our Teachers in their continued planning as we re-establish Teacher-led learning beginning Monday, April 6, 2020.

Further, as you have likely heard from recent TDSB and Ontario Government communications, due to the continued spread of COVID-19, all publicly-funded schools in Ontario, including those at the TDSB, will remain closed to Students until Monday, May 4, 2020. The government also said that as we approach this date, the decision will be reevaluated and that the closure may be extended based on public health advice. For more information, please read Minister of Education Stephen Lecce’s letter to Parents and Guardians.

As we know, these continue to be unprecedented and challenging times. The Staff at Samuel Hearne Middle School would like to remind all of our Students and Families that we are here for you. Although school will not look the same when we re-establish Teacher-led learning for all Students beginning on Monday, April 6, 2020, the focus of our Staff continues to be the learning, mental health and well-being of all Students.

We look forward to our continued learning beginning on Monday, April 6, 2020!

Moving forward, we will continue to communicate any updates and pertinent information as it is shared to keep our School Community informed in a timely manner.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Principal Joe Romano directly via email at

Thank You!

Take Care,

Mr. J. Romano, Principal & Ms. N. Blackwood-Fuller, Vice Principal
