TDSB Returning To School Update

Good Afternoon Samuel Hearne MS Community,

On behalf of the Staff of Samuel Hearne Middle School, we sincerely hope that our Students and Families are continuing to be safe and are well, and that you are enjoying the Summer.

This message is being sent to share new information regarding the TDSB Returning To School plans – please see the sections below for information and details:

Returning To School – A Guide To The Safe Re-Opening Of The TDSB:

  • As we prepare to re-open schools in September and welcome back Students and Staff, the TDSB is doing everything possible to ensure the health and safety of all school community members
  • Please see the Returning to School: A Guide to the Safe Reopening of the TDSB document, shared on the TDSB website
    • This document outlines the TDSB’s plans on health and safety measures, learning models, well-being, supports and operations
    • TDSB Central Staff have been working on these plans for the past few months guided by ongoing conversations with Toronto Public Health, the Ministry of Education, as well as Staff, Students, Families and our union and federation partners
    • On Thursday, July 30, 2020, the TDSB received final direction from the Ministry of Education for the Fall and school re-opening plans are now coming together

TDSB Webinar – Safe Re-Opening Of Schools:

  • Additional information on our school re-opening plans will be shared as we get closer to the re-opening of our school
  • Visit the TDSB Return To School webpage regularly for updates
  • Also, please join TDSB Central Staff for a webinar on the Safe Re-opening of Schools this Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM to learn more about the plans

TDSB Pre-Registration Survey:

  • To help with planning, beginning today (Tuesday, August 11, 2020) you will be receiving an automated School Messenger telephone call from the TDSB asking for you to indicate your intentions for your child(ren) for September (i.e. will they be attending in-person classes or learning remotely)
  • If the attempts to reach you by telephone are not successful or you have been unable to respond to the calls, the TDSB will follow-up with an email which will include a link to an online Pre-Registration Form

As we look ahead to September 2020 and to the 2020/2021 academic year, please be reminded to continue to check the TDSB website at and your email for continued updates/communication from the TDSB and our school regarding re-opening plans for September 2020. We will be sure to share this information as it becomes available on our school website/blog at, through Parent/Guardian emails and on Twitter.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Stay Well & Take Care,
Mr. J. Romano, Principal & Ms. N. Blackwood-Fuller, Vice Principal
